I have been making these treats for milo for a long time. They are super easy to make and last a long time which is great! I have dog bone shaped cookie cutters that I found on Etsy for $5.00 that work great but you can always use a knife or any other cookie cutters you have laying around the house if you don’t want to make a purchase. This batch will make a lot depending on how big you cut out the pieces. You can keep them in the refrigerator in an air tight container for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months. I usually keep mine in the fridge for 3 weeks and then freeze any that I have left.
Here is what you need:
-1 cup all natural creamy peanut butter
-1 large egg (or 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce)
-2 cups whole wheat flour
-1 tablespoon baking powder
-1/3 cup rolled oats (quick oats are also fine)
-2/3 strips bacon chopped (I usually add a little bit of the bacon grease to the dough for extra flavor)
-1 Banana
Step 1: preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil and set aside
Step 2: In a large bowl, mix the peanut butter and egg together with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula (I use my hands, I think it works best if you don’t mind getting them sticky!) Add the flour and baking powder. Mix in the oats and bacon. The dough should be extremely thick and heavy.
Step 3: Using a floured rolling pin, cut into shapes using cookie cutters or a knife. Arrange cut out shapes on the baking sheets. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until very lightly browned on the bottom. Remove from the oven, and flip the treats to bake the other side for 10-12 more minutes.
Step 4: Allow to cool completely before serving to your pup or storing in fridge or freezer.
These look delicious. I will definitely give them a try.

I have made them today and our test run went amazing with the dogs! They were just quite dry to roll, so I added a 2nd egg. Still a little dry but I could mix them better 🙂

Hi there! I am so glad your dogs enjoyed those treats! These are my dogs absolute favorite treats and I love making them! Next time when you make the treats try adding a little bit of water to help with the dryness. I usually start with a tablespoon or so to help moisten the dough and keep adding until I get my desired consistency. But if you put to much water in and your dough gets too sticky just add more flour back in. Hope that helps!

HI there. I have a bulldog and prefer to go wheat free. Can I substitute a different kind of flour?

Absolutely! You can use gluten free flour (red mill has a good brand I have used before), chickpea flour, buckwheat flour, and a couple of options! Just check your local grocery store and see what kinds of options they have. Good luck!
