This recipe is super easy to make. I love this recipe because it incorporates ground flaxseed into your dogs diet. Ground flaxseed provides awesome benefits for your dog because in addition to containing omega fatty acids, it also contains alpha-linoleic acid, which offers benefits to your dog’s immune system. Alpha-linoleic acid also has an anti-inflammatory effect, so it might aid your dog if they shows signs of arthritis or other joint problems. Lignans in flax seed contain antioxidants. This is also a great recipe to make in bulk and freeze so you have it on hand for months to come!
Here is what you’ll need… ( This makes 14 servings for a 20 pound dog)
- 5 lbs chicken
- 1 cup barley
- 1 cup oatmeal
- 1/4 cup carrots
- 1/4 cup apples
- 1/3 cup ground flaxseed
- 1 bunch parsley
Step 1: Take a large pot, place chicken into pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, turn down to a simmer and cover with lid for about an hour.
Step 2: When chicken is cooked drain stock through strainer to get rid of any excess fat and place back into pot. Place chicken off to the side.
Step 3: Place vegetables into stock until tender then puree in food processor.
Step 4: Shred chicken or place in food processor and mix all ingredients together.
Step 5: Let completely cool before serving. Refrigerate in an airtight container up to 3 days or freeze up to 3 months.
